Sails
Enjoy this sailing season with our custom sails and canvas.
Welcome to Dorsal!
Building on a long history of serving the Great Lakes boating community, DORSAL, LLC (aka Door Sail) is your full service sail loft & canvas shop, capable of computer assisted Sail design & cutting, as well as being fully invested in digital 3D modeling to design and cut custom Biminis, Dodgers, Full Enclosures, Sail & Boat Covers of all sort and even Upholstery work for the cockpit and down below.
Friendly & Personal Service
Meet your sailmaker, not some sales person. Let us spend some time with you discussing how you use your boat, and we will create a unique sail, custom designed for you and your boat. Likewise, plan on spending some time perusing our extensive selection of fabrics and upholstery foams, to create a whole new look for your interior or cockpit. We approach canvas design with the same hands on fashion, encouraging boat owners to participate in the process, in order to address their individual needs and wishes.
Craft & Technology
We have both: talented craft people and a fully digital design environment using the Proliner 8 for virtual patterning in a 3D model, and a Carlson CNC computer controlled cutting machine. You can come and see your new sails, canvas, or upholstery being assembled and sewn by skillful hands right here in our loft overlooking Sturgeon Bay.

Aug 2013Love With a Chance of Drowning

A great new sailing book was released a couple months ago. The style is a combination of classics by the Pardeys, Tanya Aebel, etc. and modern sailing blogs like the Bumfuzzles and ZeroToCruising. Definitely worth a read
Testimonials
Dorsal revolutionized our overnight sailing trips! Charlie and team created v-berth cushions that not only fit perfectly in our 35 year-old boat, but are more comfortable than our bedroom mattress. Nights 'in the hole' are now a pleasure, rather than torture. Thank you!
